The Fairy Queen of Spencer’s Butte and Other Tales by Jolene Dawe
This is a collection of short stories by an up and coming author.
I hope you find this excerpt interesting.
pg. 188: This from the short story “The Troll and The Tree Nymph”:
He sighed, rubbing his face with his hands. “Your
music. She came out of her tree for you. Write her a song
that enchants her. Play for her. I need to speak to her.”
“To enslave her? I won’t help you do anything like
this to anyone else,” Libby said.
Civility slipped from his features for a fraction of a
second, long enough for Libby to get a glimpse of what she
was dealing with. He could order her to do this thing,
whether she willed it or not, and she’d have no choice. She
believed that already.
Book Blurb:
In the Willamette Valley: a queen gathers her court around her in a new land and dares to hope for love; a mother protects her daughter no matter the cost; a dragon lies slumbering, forgotten by the world; a grieving man struggles to honor the dying wish of a loved one; the past and the present collide. Gathered within these pages are thirteen tales centered around Eugene, Oregon and its environs, exploring the magic and wonder of this lush green valley.
