Romance author Beth Trissel’s latest historical release, Into the Lion’s Heart, is a novella for the Love Letters series recently released by The Wild Rose Press, and concerns Captain Dalton Evans, a veteran of the Napoleonic War, who family receives a letter from France stating that a friend’s daughter is in need of shelter, now that the revolution has struck. But when the ship arrives, it’s floundering and Dalton takes on the lovely “Sophia” not quite sure if she’s his cousin or not.
Indeed, Sophia has a bit of a secret. In reality, she’s Cecile, Sophia’s lady in waiting, and has taken Sophia’s place on the ship, while Sophia’s run off to marry her paramour and is currently in hiding. Dalton isn’t fooled by the ruse, but he is very attracted to Cecil, and curious about her secret. That doesn’t mean he’s willing to allow her to be thrown to London Society’s wolves, especially since he’s fallen in love with her.
So what happens? Will Cecile fall for Dalton, or his charming friend Tom? Or will the men discover her secret and expose her, will she be cast out of her only safe haven, first?
By turns, Beth Trissel’s Into the Lion’s Heart is sweet—and yes, even funny now and then. I enjoyed it very much, and am glad I purchased it recently. I think if you love historical romance, you will enjoy Into the Lion’s Heart too. If you’d like to try it out, it is available for e-readers at The Wild Rose Press, for the Nook via barnesandnoble.com and for the Kindle via amazon.com
Thanks for the lovely review of a story I very much enjoyed writing, and a time period I found fascinating.
You’re welcome, Beth. And you’re right. The Napoleonic era is fascinating. I’m doing some reading on it myself right now.
