Specimen 313 by Jeff Strand

Jeff Strand Specimen 313Yesterday afternoon, I was in the mood for a little horror, so I pulled up a short story I got on my kindle this weekend. Specimen 313 by Jeff Strand.

The humorous–I mean scary–“Specimen 313” is a little story about a carnivorous plant named Max whose mad scientist breeder feeds it …well, you’ll have to read it to find out the major part, but anyway, the Good Reads synopsis reads thusly:

A free short story taken straight from the pages of THE MONSTER’S CORNER, an all original anthology from some of today’s hottest supernatural writers, featuring stories from the monster’s point of view.

SPECIMEN 313 is the story of a meat-eating plant named Max, surviving in the greenhouse with his mad doctor keeper when he gets a new female neighbor.

If you want to give it a shot it’s available at Amazon. or it’s also now out int the anthology The Monster’s Corner. It’s also…oh! Online at Tor.com here.

What did I think? Well, I loved it! It has a certain H.P. Lovecraft (ahem) flavor and certainly nods to the Little Shop of Horrors. Both of which I love so, if you’re in the mood for a little macabre humor (Halloween is right around the corner) you’ll want to give this a try. 🙂
