First up, in The Last Great Wizard of Yden. The story concerns Jon Hansen whose father disappears on Jon’s 16th birthday. Jon insists he saw someone kidnap his father in a flash of light. Then his father just disappeared into thin air. The police are skeptical of the actual events surrounding Dr. Hansen’s disappearance and Jon’s mother is beside herself.
The only remnant Dr. Hansen left behind is a dragon ring he’d meant to gift to Jon, and what a weird ring it is as Jon finds out. The ring transports him to another world, one medieval in tone, run by evil kings. Yden. The setting for all his father’s fantastical bedtime stories. Where wizards are very real—or they were before the Wolf Clan wizard succeeded in killing off almost all of them. Same goes for the dragons.
The last wizard, the wicked Wolf Clan wizard Efysian—or so Jon is sure, for his dreams show him the wizard is holding his father prisoner.
While Jon is amazed that Yden is actually real, he has no idea how to free his father. Back at home, his mother’s contemplating selling their house and moving, now that her beloved husband’s gone; Jon’s uncle is trying to teach him how to fight like a man; and the local press has gotten wind of his statement to the police and printed it for all the world to see. Now the whole freshman class thinks Jon’s a lunatic who believes his father abducted by aliens. How embarrassing!
Then an aging wizard, and a pretty girl crash into the schoolyard. The wizard in a coma, the girl, Kira, begs Jon to return to Yden with her to defeat the evil Efysian—not to mention the equally nasty king.
Could the school year get any worse?
Dragon Clan of Yden, the second book in the Yden series, sees teen wizard Jon Hansen return to Yden to master his magic Under his grandfather Quixoran’s tutelage.
Dragon Clan of Yden is a magical and adventurous addition to the Yden series, with the humor Ms. Rogers’ readers have come to love and contemplates the question just how far are we willing to go for our families. Fans of, say, Harry Potter or of the author Tamora Pierce will thoroughly enjoy Children of Yden.
Secrets of Yden continues the tale of teenage wizard Jon Hansen.
Jon barely survived a time anomaly set off last summer, now, he’s got bigger problems on hand. Graduation, prom, and whether or not Kira likes him, or the high school football star. Seems Yden’s dragons aren’t the only ones pairing up this spring.
On top of that, his art teacher thinks his Yden paintings would be perfect for an upcoming fantasy art gallery event—which brings him attention he’d rather not have. Making matters worse is Jon’s soon-to-be sister-in-law, an up-and-coming movie star who will do anything for publicity. Will Jon and the gang survive to make it to graduation? You’ll have to read to find out.
Secrets of Yden, contains quite a few twists and turns along the way to its thrilling dénouement. Fantasy fans, if you haven’t read the series you should I think you will love it!
Finally, in KIRA, Ms.. Rogers takes her readers back to the world of Yden, prior to teen wizard Jon Hansen’s arrival and into the tribal communities. Young Kira Szul’s sister is about to (she hopes) become betrothed to another tribe’s leader. Kira would rather not consider courting and betrothals, instead, she’s interested in adventure. And in finding a cure to help her friend, the wizard Dorsit, regain his powers.
In search of both, she heads off across Yden but in the course of her journey, she happens upon Warlord Mandrel. A man who has allied himself with dangerous Cyclopes and a bloodthirsty wizard. Not knowing any of this, Kira herself falls into his trap when he poisons her with a dangerous love potion. Now, she must find the cure, not only for her friend, but herself, before she ends up married to the foul Mandrel, and plunging her family and their tribe into ruin.
A must for any fantasy fan, KIRA presets an exciting novella-length prequel to Ms. Rogers’ delightful, magical Yden series and an unexpected glimpse at a favorite character’s background—or for me, anyway. As long as I’ve been following and a fan of the series, Kira has been one of my favorites characters. 🙂 And I am sure she’ll become yours!
So now, the whole series is out in a boxed set. If you’d like to check it out, it’s available at Amazon.
